Backstoryrotary play structure surrounded by barricade fencing

Rotary Playground was constructed at Purcell City Lake by the Purcell Rotary Club around 1987.  For years, kids in our community have been enjoying this play structure.  The City of Purcell inherited the play structure and close-by pavilion from the Rotary Club in the late 1990’s.  As the City made Investments in new amenities such as upgrades to the Original One-Mile Trail and  ADA accessible restrooms near the Rotary Pavilion and Playground in 2019, the play structure broke down and was rated unsafe for use.

Rotary Playground Replacement Project Approval

On October 27th, 2022, Purcell City Council voted unanimously to fund the replacement of the Rotary Playground located at Purcell Lake.  The new playground will feature two main structures and a swing set.  One structure will be for children 2 to 5 years old, one structure will be for children 5 to 12 years old, and the swing set will accommodate children of all ages.  Numerous accessibility features will be available for people of all abilities to use.  Large shade structures will provide protection from the hot summer sun.  The structures will be in proximity of our new paved trails and restrooms and surrounded by Purcell Lake and lots of wildlife habitats and nature for everyone to learn about and explore!

Rotary Playground Grand Opening - August 19th, 2023

We hosted the grand opening of the Rotary Playground on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  The Parks and Recreation Department served free hot dogs, and Sonshine Shaved Ice served free snow cones for the kids!

Thank You To Our Community Sponsors!

We could not have accomplished this playground without the support and generosity of our city leadership, city staff, our community members, and our local businesses. Many people have invested their time and money into making this project happen, and we are extremely grateful!
